PAINTING LOOSE & PLEIN
AIR WORKSHOP
w/Pat DeVirgilis
In the morning, Pat’s demo will focus on manipulating acrylic, oil and
watercolor paint in a loose and fluid manner as it relates to landscape and
still life painting. A discussion of the function and progression of color
will follow to illustrate a greater freedom of personal expression. Plein
Air painting after lunch will be at the Norristown Farm Park, weather
permitting. Bring supplies for outdoor work.
Cost: $40 members, $50 non-members

LIFE FIGURE WORKSHOP
w/Frank Short
Frank will start with a demo; the students will then work from the model
with some quick gestures working up to the “still” figure. Frank will
observe students’ work and give ongoing constructive suggestions/corrections
and individual critiques. The goal will be a piece of “art of the figure” at
the end of the workshop.
Cost: $40 members, $50 non-members + modeling fee

Artist Anthony Allman will introduce us to the art of mosaic. “I am a big
believer in keeping it simple. It is not as complex as it seems - just tile
nippers, glass and a design. With any work of art you have to plan and study
and let it take you where it has to go.”

BRANDYWINE MUSEUM/CHADDSFORD WINERY TRIP
Tour the Brandywine River Museum featuring work from three generations of
Wyeths, with an optional tour of the home and studio of N.C. Wyeth. Lunch in
the restaurant, followed by a guided tour of the Chaddsford Winery and wine
tasting of many of their fine wines. Return at 5pm.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP w/John Benigno
"The Art of Making Photographs." Discover the difference between the way you
and the camera “see” to improve your photography. Learn depth-of-field;
master elements of composition; and the fundamentals of seeing
photographically. All camera formats (including film and digital cameras)
with a working knowledge of the equipment.

Patricia Goodrich, poet, sculptor and world traveler, will show slides and
discuss her career as an artist. Multi-talented, Patricia’s work includes
sculpture, painting, mixed media and site-specific works. Currently, she is
involved with the Open Curtain project in Romania, with the New Spiral in
Slovenia and a community based art project Bucks Speaks for the James A.
Michener Museum.

“WET-IN-WET” WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP w/Jim McFarlane
One of the most “luscious” ways to paint with watercolor is to apply wet
paint to wet paper, the traditional “wet-into-wet” method. Jim will begin
with a demo and will give you exercises and preparatory steps to follow; the
majority of the time will be devoted to you painting loose watercolors. It
will take time and willingness to experiment, but with Jim’s help, you can
master and paint fresh, painterly watercolors based on this exciting
technique. |

BEADMAKING WORKSHOP w/Mary Lozinak
Beads can inspire collage work and are great for home decorations. So, in
time for the holidays, beginners and advanced students will create wonderful
beads with polymer clay to make fascinating art jewelry and make more
elaborate beads and canes.

SCRAPBOOKING WORKSHOP w/Denise Romano Bright
Unique decorative paper techniques for use in scrapbooks, journals, hand
made books, decoupage, stationery, collage, etc. Techniques to be explored:
traditional marbling, suminagashi and paste paper. Results are one of a kind
to make your book art projects truly distinctive.

Philadelphia artist, Karl Richard Olsen, will discuss his
diverse array of work and life experiences as an artist in crafts,
metalwork, and as painter and printmaker. He will demonstrate the process of
making a linocut from a live model -- from the composition and use of tools
to making the first "artist proof." The use of papers, inks and cut mediums
will be discussed.

MIXED WATERMEDIA & COLLAGE WORKSHOP w/Laurie Daddona
Painting Outside the Box. Come explore watercolor, acrylics, inks, pastel,
and collage and build excitement in your paintings. Focus on experimenting
with these mediums to create texture, form, color, balance and contrast.
“What if” is the philosophy of this workshop. There are no limitations! All
levels welcome.

Photographer Rick Wright will discuss his photography series through the
years and his recent year-long experiment shooting exclusively with a mobile
phone camera to capture poignant moments of light, energy and resonance.
Learn what jpegs have in common with Impressionism; discover the concept of
Wabi-Sabi or the beauty of imperfection. Rick’s work is collected in several
major collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He will be our
judge for the March 28-29 Photography Exhibition.

“THE THREE ‘Rs’ OF COLOR” WORKSHOP w/Jim McFarlane
Do you select colors intellectually or randomly? The colors in a painting
should be as carefully planned as the composition of the piece. Knowing and
using the color wheel is an important aspect of painting with watercolor.
You can use the color wheel to design the colors of your work for exciting
and creative results. This workshop will concentrate on the use of the color
wheel to find new and meaningful ways to use creative color. Individual and
group critiques will be offered.

International award winning multi-media artist, Linda Benton McCloskey will
give a brief history of encaustics and then demonstrate basic encaustic
techniques to create unusual translucent textural effects (using beeswax,
resins, and oils). She will also bring a few completed pieces to view. Linda
will be presenting a workshop on May 16th for those interested in more
information and hands-on experience of this time honored medium.

unique and uncommon beeswax medium. Although ancient in origin, encaustic

styles. Demonstration of basic tools and techniques will be followed by
students creating their own piece with individual instruction.
